Aspartame and bi polar disorder

I have heard that aspartame can trigger mania in people with bi polar disorder, has anyone else heard of this?

Hi. I didnt know where to post this so I hope no one minds that I post on this forum. I just wanted to ask about Bi-polar Disorder symptoms and because I also think that I may have it. I suffer from and ED and also SI, and it has got to the point where I have tried to take my life on many occasions and now I just feel that I need to get help.

Also I dont really want to go onto Anti-Depressants but feel that it will help me as I have been on them before, How would I go about asking my Doctor about getting some to help with my mood swings etc..?


Hope someone can help. Any advice will be appreciated. Thanks

I too have suspected myself of been bipolar and still aren't really sure whether I am or not, to find out more about the symptoms of bipolar disorder check out this webpage http://helpguide.org/mental/bipolar_..._treatment.htm , if you have tried to take your life on a number of occasions then it does sound like you need professional help. You may need to take anti depressants and if you are truly bipolar will probably need to take a mood stabilizer in conjunction with them, as anti depressants alone in people who are bipolar can often trigger mania, the mood stabilizer helps to prevent this, one takes care of the mania and the other takes care of the depression.
