Why do you feel the need to carry a knife?

lotsa reasons. Some gangbangers around and kids have gotten stabbed or killed before. Not too much around anymore though. Alot of them dipped to the city so its mostly drug dealers now. Flakes too.

but the other than that, its useful. if im skateboarding or somthing and my shoelace rips, i can cut it and fix it. or if my griptape is peeling, n all that.

I think you meant "off", otherwise that title doesnt make a whole load of sense!

Anyway, theres no point taking the sharp end off a knife because kids, teenagers and adults will just find a way to resharpen the end or find a different weapon to use.

It not about taking the weapons away, because they can just as easily pick up a plank of wood and smack someone accross the head.

Its about giving them self confidenc and realise they DONT need to follow others like sheep to fit in. Its about giving power back to the parents, the teachers and the police to actually disoplin children.

Kids are running a muck in this country for not better reason then a lack of self-confidence (something we dont teach in school) and the fact that no one is able to shout at them or slap them when they step out of line.

I remember a time when you could drag a kid to their house and tell their parents they were miss-behaving and the kid would be dealt with. If you dare do that now, the parents wil likely call the police on YOU for touching their kid.

That defines the ENTIRE reason this country is how it is.

No one cares aboutt respect or teaching their kids respect anymore.

I grew up being scared to kick a ball onto a neighbours garden knowing they would shout at me. I seriously doubt kids now feel the same. They would proably just tell the person who lives there to "bleep off".

We need to give the power back to adults and parents to shout and discoplin kids and to put the fear of god back into them.

    Thumbs up

This is a joke, right? In Britain they banned most/ all guns, now they want to go after knives and people are OK with this? What's next? Look, let me help a few of you...IT"S NOT THE TOOL, IT'S THE PERSON BEHIND IT! The reply above mine is on the right track...society needs to be willing to help police deal with the people who are willing to use ANY tool as an offensive weapon. The police cannot do it alone, they only have the amount of power that the public is willing to give them. Nobody wants to be a witness against criminals for fear of retaliation, the behavior continues. Everyone stands up and makes it known that this behavior is wrong and won't be tolerated and it will move to another area where the citizens are scared or complacent (don't be fooled, once gangs and criminal activity are present, they don't go away, they just get pushed to another area). TEACH people right and wrong, self esteem, foster the intelligence to move forward in life and people will succeed. The tool is not the problem...I guess few on here have seen someone stabbed with a phillips screwdriver: I have, and those are not usually considered to be sharp, but the wound is just as bad. Just food for thought.

Societies that have banned guns do have less gun crime as a result of doing so, it may not have solved the problem completely but it has only helped, so would taking the point of knives, if they are not needed anyway and it would only help why not do it. Just because something won’t solve the problem completely doesn’t mean it still isn’t worth doing.

The person who has posted above their logic is flawed and extremely cynical, why bother doing anything if it won’t solve the problem completely, thank god we don’t apply that to other areas of life, like not bothering treating people with cancer because there are some who will still die anyway.

A lot of knife crime is committed with kitchen knives on the spur of the moment, if those knives never had points on them there would be no stabbing, even if it only saved one life it would be worth it, what’s your problem if they are not even needed anyway.

Sure we can’t ban everything that can potentially be used as a weapon, hammers, screw drivers whatever, but certain things like guns and pointed kitchen knives we can and it would make a difference, even if it’s only a small one it’s worth it, especially if it’s something that’s not needed.

I do agree with many of the points the last two people who have posted have made, we do need to address the issue of not just the tool but the person using it as well and all the other points in regards to that and society in general, but for maximum effect I think you need to address both, the argument for just addressing the one is extremely foolish, if we were to only do that you would be able to buy a machine gun in every corner shop, and we would be saying oh no it’s not the fact that you can buy a machine gun that is the problem it’s the individual, bullcrap it’s both, whether you like it or not there are bad eggs out there and limiting what weapons they have access to does make a difference. An angry man with a knife with a point is a lot more dangerous than a angry man with a knife without a point.

It’s not an either or type issue, it’s not like we can only address the one cause or the other, or only do the one thing to help or another, it’s a problem where we need to do everything that can be done to help and taking the point of knives would help.
